Early in 2020, Seattle Department of Transportation approached Outdoors for All with an eagerness and desire to make this already bicycle-friendly city even more accessible. With this partnership, Outdoors for All was able to provide FREE adaptive bike rentals 7 days a week to children and adults with disabilities from our Adaptive Cycling Center in Magnuson Park from May 1st to September 30th.

Our goal was to provide 400 rides to 100 unique riders in five months. Thanks to this collaboration with Seattle Department of Transportation we blew our goals out of the park! By September 30th, we served 281 unique participants and provided 755 adaptive cycle rentals! See some of the highlights here: https://youtu.be/nmmjb10T19s

“Programs like Outdoors for All are crucial in building self-esteem and building core strength in people with disabilities. Getting outdoors is essential for heath and mental health”

-Alistair Patrick, Outdoors for All participant.

For over 40 years Outdoors for All has transformed the lives of youth and adults with disabilities. Our adaptive cycling program was established in 2012. At that time, it was supported by a single staff member and we only had 5 adaptive cycles for rent. Today, our fleet consists of over 240 adaptive cycles, we have full-time staff support bike programs, and we have a fully-equipped Adaptive Cycling Center rental facility and workshop.

While the partnership with Outdoors for All and the Seattle Department of Transportation officially wrapped up on September 30th, 2019, Outdoors for All will continue to rent adaptive cycles at an hourly rate, 5 days a week.
