Volunteer Role Descriptions
| Position: | Downhill Skiing, Sit Skiing, Snowboarding, Cross-country Skiing, and Snowshoeing |
| Summary: | Teach children and adults with disabilities how to ski, snowboard, or snowshoe during our winter program series. |
| Responsible to: | Designated Lead Volunteer(s) and Program Staff |
| Locations: | Summit at Snoqualmie OR Stevens Pass (no cross-country skiing or snowshoeing at Stevens Pass) |
| Commitment: | Full Time (7-week series) or Part Time (minimum of 3 program days) |

Responsibilities:
- Provide a safe, fun, positive and informative learning experience for Outdoors for All participants.
- Complete participant progress reports and make recommendations to participant’s performance.
- For instructional activities, utilize a lesson plan or outline.
- Work with participants to set goals for the season and for each lesson; support the participant to achieve their goal(s) while abiding by the Responsibility Code.
- Conduct and follow emergency procedures when required and complete incident reports when necessary.
- Participate in pre-activity meeting with Program Staff.
- Report absent participant(s) to staff lead.
- Assist with recruiting and retaining other volunteers and participants.
- Ensure participants unload and load to their assigned bus/van.
- Participate in a minimum of two in-season clinics (strongly encouraged).
Qualifications:
- Sit Ski Instructors: Must have 3+ years of previous experience as a volunteer instructor with OFA’s downhill ski/snowboard programs.
- Age requirement: 14 years or older
- Intermediate ability level or higher
- Relevant certifications desirable (PSIA, AASI).
- Ability to work with a wide variety of personalities, skill levels, and disabilities.
- Knowledge regarding people with disabilities and recreational activities.
- Leadership, communication, motivation, teaching, mentoring, and people skills.
- Ability to commit to all responsibilities and expectations.
- Have a positive attitude
Requirements:
- Complete required in-person and virtual trainings.
- Attendance and punctuality for all scheduled work.
- Ability to complete all volunteer responsibilities noted above.
- No use or working under the influence of alcohol or any other controlled substance(s).
Role Summary:
Drive participants using Outdoors for All vehicles from the Outdoors for All office in Bellevue to Snoqualmie or Stevens Pass.
- If you would like to be an on-call driver, sign-up for a shift and email volunteer@outdoorsforall.org indicating your preference.
Benefits:
- Full-time and Part-Time volunteers: will receive a lift ticket for each day of volunteering and prodeals.
Responsibilities:
- Pick up necessary vehicle, equipment, and supplies.
- Check weather/road reports prior to departing to pick-up location, and be prepared for any conditions.
- Complete safety inspection of vehicle prior to departure and upon return.
- Arrive at pick-up location 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure time. Depart within 10 minutes of scheduled departure.
- Obey and follow all State Laws and posted speed limits.
- Remain on schedule while ensuring a safe ride.
- Assist in loading and unloading of passengers.
- Secure vehicle in appropriate parking location.
- Deliver passengers to authorized drop-off locations only.
- Clean vehicle and return equipment, supplies and lost & found.
- Solve problems/issues during transit and report problems to Staff Lead
- Complete travel logs and other pertinent documentation of travels.
Qualifications:
- Age requirement: 21 years or older
- Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license.
- Must pass a WSP background check and be insurable.
- Ability to facilitate a safe, fun, positive environment to Outdoors for All sponsored activities.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people, disabilities, skill levels, and personalities.
- Ability to commit to all responsibilities and expectations noted above.
- Have a positive attitude.

- First aid and CPR certification required.

Role Summary:
To ensure that participants remain safe during transportation to Outdoors for All sponsored activities and to assist with emergencies should they occur.
- If you would like to be an on-call chaperone, sign-up for a shift and email volunteer@outdoorsforall.org indicating your preference.
Benefits:
- Full-time and Part-Time volunteers: will receive a lift ticket for each day of volunteering and prodeals.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise passengers at all times in transit, and at pick-up/drop-off points.
- Take attendance at each pick-up point
- Allow passengers to leave vehicle only when scheduled, or during an emergency.
- Keep passengers in vehicle until authorized Outdoors for All Program Staff or volunteers meet them.
- Maintain passenger safety including first aid service, if necessary.
- Ensure that passengers use restrooms prior to vehicle departure (when available)
- Report concerns/behavior problems/safety issue to Staff Lead in timely fashion. Using a cell phone, maintain communication with Program Staff
- Using a cell phone, maintain communication with participants/parents/caregivers/group home staff, if arrival at drop-off points is more than 15 minutes behind schedule.
- Complete incident reports as required and submit to Outdoors for All office in a timely fashion.
- After vehicles are empty, remove all garbage and lost & found items.
Qualifications:

Role Summary:
Serves as an office assistant for Outdoors for All staff, volunteers and participants at various mountain operation locations.
Benefits:
- Full-time and Part-Time volunteers: will receive a lift ticket for each day of volunteering and prodeals.
Responsibilities:
- Take attendance and pass out lift tickets.
- Conduct Emergency Procedures when required. Complete incident reports when necessary.
- Participate in pre-activity meeting with staff lead.
- When needed, supervise participants during lunch or breaks.
- Assist with the cleanliness and uptake of mountain facilities.
- Respond to needs of staff, volunteers and participants as they arise.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Age requirement: Must be 18 years or older
- Knowledge regarding working with people with disabilities.
- Ability to facilitate a safe, fun, positive environment for Outdoors for All sponsored activities.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people, disabilities, skill levels, and personalities.

Role Summary:

- Adjust and check DIN settings on skis weekly before sending equipment on snow.
- Pull equipment and support instructors in meeting participant equipment needs (i.e. boots, skis, poles, adaptations).
- Conduct pre-season organization and evaluation of equipment status.
- Coordinate the repair and maintenance of equipment as needed.
- Maintain safety of equipment, including routine checks on sit skis.
- Monitor the availability of specialized equipment.
- Coordinate daily organization and dispersal of equipment.
- Monitor the return and function of equipment.
- Ensure proper storage of equipment.

About:
The Race Program provides training and racing opportunities for athletes with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Race Program coaches assist with winter sports training and competitions, which enhances athletes’ lives by building self-esteem, confidence and independence.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a safe, fun, positive and informative learning experience for participants.
- Complete participant progress reports and make recommendations for participant’s performance.
- For instructional activities, utilize a lesson plan or outline.
- Coach participants to set goals for the season and for each lesson; support the participant to achieve their racing goal(s).
- Conduct and follow emergency procedures when required.
- Complete incident reports when necessary and abide by the Responsibility Code.
- Participate in pre-activity meeting with assigned Lead Volunteer or Program Staff.
- Report absent participant(s) to staff lead.
- Assist with recruiting and retaining other volunteers and participants.
- Ensure participants unload and load to their assigned bus/van.
- Participate in a minimum of two in-season clinics (strongly encouraged).
- There may be additional commitments outside of the Outdoors for All season
Qualifications:
- Age requirement: 14 years or older
- Must be in your second year or more of volunteering in Outdoors for All Winter programs for Wednesday nights only. Saturdays downhill and Nordic can be first year.

About:
The Outdoors for All Race Program is a Special Olympics racing team that provides training and racing opportunities for athletes with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Race Program coaches (downhill skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country ski) assist with winter sports training and competitions, which enhances athletes’ lives by building self-esteem, confidence and independence.
Responsibilities:
- Duties include hauling gates, banners and drills, shoveling, helping set and maintain the course and safety banner, and breaking down the course at the end of the day.
Qualifications:
- Age requirement: 14 years or older
- Must be at least an intermediate level skier/rider and be able to ski/ride while carrying heavy equipment
- Ability to work with a wide variety of personalities, skill levels, and disabilities.
- Knowledge regarding people with disabilities and recreational activities.
- Leadership, communication, motivation, teaching, mentoring, and people skills.
- Ability to commit to all responsibilities and expectations.

Training Requirements
When: December 6, 7, 13, & 14. Backup dates in case of weather-related cancellations are December 20 and 21
Where: Summit at Snoqualmie or Stevens Pass (based on the resort where you signed up to volunteer).
Time: 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
- New instructors must attend 3 consecutive days (December 6, 7, & 13 or December 7, 13, & 14).
- Sit ski instructors must attend December 7, 13, & 14. This requirement change ensures adequate training for instructors.
- 2nd year instructors must attend 2 days
- 3rd+ year instructors must attend 1 day
Sit Ski Instructors, this is an optional opportunity to learn how to properly fit a sit ski for participants. We’ll walk you through using adaptive padding and supplies to ensure a safe, comfortable, and personalized fit.

I experienced an error when trying to sign up for a volunteer shift. What should I do?
We’re sorry this happened. Please let us know by emailing volunteer@outdoorsforall.org and we’ll work to solve the problem.
Do you offer transportation to volunteers?
Unfortunately, we do not offer transportation or coordinate carpools for volunteers. If you're interested in a carpool, reach out to volunteer@outdoorsforall.org.
What should I know about Parking?
Snoqualmie Pass
Full and part-time volunteers will receive free parking passes for the days they volunteer. Part-time volunteers who change their volunteer dates after January 1st will not receive a free parking pass and must abide by parking fees and regulations as outlined here.
Stevens Pass
Stevens Pass parking details for volunteers will be determined at a later date. For now, please review the Stevens Pass website for parking information.
What if I can’t attend all required trainings?
You can indicate which days you will miss on your registration form. You must make-up all missed trainings during the season by attending in-season clinics, which take place Wednesday evenings at Summit West.
What if I miss a day of volunteering?
Contact your program staff with your updated status as soon as possible. You must make up missed volunteer days by volunteering for a Group Program. Failure to do so may result in you being charged full price for a season’s pass if you purchased one through Outdoors for All, or turning off access to your season’s pass.
Can I complete a makeup day of volunteering at another series program?
No. You must complete a makeup day at a Group Program.
What’s the difference between full-time and part-time volunteer commitments?
Full time volunteers must commit to all sessions. Part time volunteers must commit to at least 3 sessions.
How can I get a discounted seasons pass to The Summit at Snoqualmie or Stevens Pass?
All full-time volunteers who commit to all 7 program days are eligible for a discounted seasons pass at the mountain they volunteer at. Instructions on how to purchase a discounted seasons pass will be sent to full-time volunteers. Full-time volunteers are not required to purchase a seasons pass. Those who do not will receive a daily lift ticket for the day they volunteer.
Summit at Snoqualmie: $159 plus tax (2024-2025 cost; this season TBD).
Stevens Pass: $364.48 (2025-2026).
How do I receive pro deals?
Full time and part-time volunteers who commit to this Winter season are eligible for prodeals through ExpertVoice.

You will sign-up for in-person training when signing up for a winter role. Virtual training links can be found at the dropdown menu below and will also be included in an automated confirmation email.
