The Summit Wednesday 3-Day Independent Bi-Ski Program is designed for participants working toward greater independence in a bi-ski. Due to the specialized nature of this program, participation is limited to experienced Sit Ski Instructors who meet all prerequisite requirements.

Dates: February 3, 10, 17

  • Sit Ski Instructors (Independent Bi-Ski): 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Commitment: 

  • Full-Time: Commit to all 7 dates within a program series.

Help prepare our Nordic and Alpine skis for the upcoming winter season by waxing and scraping equipment to keep it performing at its best. This hands-on role is perfect for volunteers with a can-do attitude who enjoy working behind the scenes to ensure participants have skis that are ready to hit the slopes.

Dates: Mondays: November 2, 9, 16

Time: 9 AM - 4 PM

Location: Snoqualmie Pass - Summit West.

Volunteers may either:

  • Meet at Outdoors for All's Bellevue headquarters at 9:00 AM and ride with staff to Snoqualmie Pass, or
  • Meet the team directly at Summit West.

Requirements:

  • Age 18+
  • Closed-toe shoes required
  • Able to work in a workshop environment with potential for loud noises, variable temperatures, non-typical smells, and other conditions that affect the senses.
  • Familiarity with ski waxing and scraping preferred, not required.

Please Note: A minimum of four volunteers is required for each workday. If fewer than four volunteers are registered two business days before the event date, the session may be canceled and all registered volunteers will be notified.

On-Snow Role Descriptions

Ski & Snowboard Instructor Volunteers provide adaptive snow sports instruction to children and adults with disabilities at The Summit at Snoqualmie or Stevens Pass. Volunteers create a safe, fun, and inclusive learning environment while helping participants develop skills, confidence, and independence on the snow. Instructors work closely with participants, fellow volunteers, and program staff to support individualized goals throughout the season.

Race Coach Volunteers support athletes with developmental and intellectual disabilities participating in the Outdoors for All Skihawks Race Program. Coaches provide instruction, mentorship, and encouragement during training and competition while helping athletes build confidence, independence, sportsmanship, and racing skills throughout the season.

  • Provide a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment for participants. 
  • Coach and mentor athletes in winter sport training, racing skills, and competition preparation. 
  • Assist athletes in establishing season and lesson goals and support progress toward achieving those goals. 
  • Utilize lesson plans, training progressions, and coaching techniques appropriate to participant needs and abilities. 
  • Complete participant progress reports and provide recommendations regarding participant performance and development. 
  • Follow all program safety standards, emergency procedures, and the Responsibility Code. 
  • Complete incident reports when required. 
  • Attend pre-activity meetings and communicate regularly with program staff and lead volunteers. 
  • Report participant absences, incidents, concerns, and safety issues promptly. 
  • Assist with participant loading, unloading, and transportation procedures when required. 
  • Support recruitment, retention, and engagement of participants and volunteers. 
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and participant-centered environment. 
  • Participate in ongoing training opportunities and a minimum of two in-season clinics (strongly encouraged). 
  • Support race-day operations and competitions as assigned. 
  • Additional commitments outside of regular program dates may be required for races or special events. 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum age of 14 years. 
  • Wednesday Program coaches must have completed at least one season volunteering in an Outdoors for All winter program. 
  • Intermediate skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing, or snowshoeing ability or higher in the applicable discipline. 
  • Ability to work with individuals of varying ages, abilities, skill levels, and disabilities. 
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, mentoring, and teamwork skills. 
  • Interest in working with individuals with disabilities; previous experience is helpful but not required. 
  • Ability to commit to assigned responsibilities and program expectations. 
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in winter weather conditions. 
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn adaptive coaching techniques. 
  • PSIA, AASI, US Ski & Snowboard, or other relevant certifications are encouraged but not required.

Race Crew Volunteers support the Skihawks Race Program by assisting with race course setup, maintenance, and breakdown. Volunteers help create a safe, organized, and successful training and competition environment for athletes with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

  • Assist with transporting, setting up, maintaining, and breaking down race courses. 
  • Haul gates, banners, drills, safety equipment, and other course materials as needed. 
  • Help install and maintain safety fencing, banners, and course marking systems. 
  • Assist with snow shoveling and course preparation throughout the day. 
  • Monitor course conditions and communicate safety concerns to Program Staff. 
  • Support race-day operations and event logistics as directed. 
  • Follow all program safety standards and emergency procedures. 
  • Attend pre-activity meetings and communicate regularly with staff and lead volunteers. 
  • Assist with loading, unloading, transporting, and storing race equipment. 
  • Foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for participants, families, volunteers, and staff.

Sit-Ski Instructor Volunteers provide adaptive skiing instruction to children and adults with disabilities using bi-skis, mono-skis, and other adaptive equipment. Volunteers work directly with participants to develop skiing skills, confidence, independence, and enjoyment of winter recreation in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. Sit-Ski Instructors work closely with participants, fellow volunteers, and program staff while utilizing specialized adaptive equipment and teaching techniques.

  • Ability to ski confidently while assisting participants and working with adaptive equipment. 
  • Ability to work with individuals of varying ages, abilities, and skill levels. 
  • Strong communication, leadership, teaching, mentoring, and teamwork skills. 
  • Commitment to program schedules, volunteer responsibilities, and safety expectations. 
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn advanced adaptive teaching techniques. 
  • Relevant certifications (PSIA Adaptive, PSIA Alpine, etc.) are encouraged but not required. 
  • Pass a Washington State background check. 

 

Equipment Manager Volunteers serve as an equipment resource for participants, volunteers, and program staff. This role supports the selection, organization, maintenance, and distribution of adaptive and recreational equipment to help ensure participants have the safest and most appropriate equipment for their individual needs.

Responsibilities:  

  • Support instructors and volunteers in selecting equipment that best meets participant needs. 
  • Pull, organize, distribute, and return equipment, including skis, snowboards, boots, poles, and adaptive equipment. 
  • Coordinate equipment repairs and maintenance as needed. 
  • Consult with Program Staff regarding the use and setup of adaptive equipment. 
  • Monitor the condition, safety, and functionality of equipment. 
  • Maintain inventory and track the availability of specialized equipment. 
  • Coordinate daily equipment organization, storage, and distribution. 
  • Ensure proper storage and security of equipment at the end of each program day. 
  • Adjust bindings and perform minor on-site equipment repairs as trained. 
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient equipment area. 
  • Communicate equipment needs, concerns, and repair requests to Program Staff. 
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and participant-centered environment. 

Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of downhill ski and snowboard equipment and/or cross-country ski and snowshoe equipment, including adaptive equipment.

Driver Volunteers operate Outdoors for All vehicles, transporting participants from assigned pickup locations in the Seattle area to winter program sites and back.  Drivers play an essential role in ensuring participants arrive safely and on time while providing a positive, professional, and welcoming transportation experience.

  • Safely transport participants and volunteers between approved locations. 
  • Assist passengers with loading and unloading as needed. 
  • Secure vehicles in approved parking areas. 
  • Deliver passengers only to authorized drop-off locations. 
  • Maintain a safe, professional, and welcoming environment during transportation. 
  • Report transportation concerns, incidents, accidents, delays, or vehicle issues to Program Staff immediately. 
  • Return equipment, supplies, and lost-and-found items following each shift. 
  • Complete required travel logs, inspection forms, and other documentation. 
  • Follow all applicable traffic laws, organizational policies, and transportation procedures.

Vehicle Chaperones help ensure participants travel safely to and from Outdoors for All programs. Chaperones provide supervision during transportation, assist with participant needs, support communication between staff and families, and help create a safe, positive, and welcoming environment.

  • Take attendance and verify participant rosters at pickup locations. 
  • Ensure participants are safely accounted for at all times while in transit. 
  • Assist participants with boarding and exiting vehicles as needed. 
  • Maintain participant safety and provide basic support during transportation. 
  • Ensure participants remain on vehicles until released to authorized Program Staff, volunteers, caregivers, or approved contacts. 
  • Assist participants in preparing for transportation needs, including restroom breaks when appropriate. 
  • Communicate participant concerns, behavioral issues, incidents, delays, or emergencies to Program Staff in a timely manner. 
  • Contact participants, caregivers, residential staff, or group home staff when instructed by Program Staff regarding delays or schedule changes. 
  • Complete incident reports and other required documentation. 
  • Assist with maintaining a clean vehicle environment, including removing garbage and collecting lost-and-found items at the end of each trip.

Group Programs are single-day events that Outdoors for All delivers in partnership with community organizations and nonprofits, bringing outdoor recreation directly to participants.
