Climbing, Cycling, and More
Join the Outdoors for All volunteer community and help make outdoor recreation accessible for people with disabilities! Seasonal opportunities range from rock climbing and mountain biking to kayaking and beyond. Many programs run as a series, but volunteers are encouraged to sign up for dates based on personal availability. We update this page regularly, so check back often to see what we are up to and get involved.
Bike Maintenance
Get your hands dirty with us as we prepare our bike fleet for the spring and summer! If you can change a flat tire, adjust a brake, and lube a chain – we want you! We have over 230 bikes in our fleet and winter is a great time for in-depth maintenance. You will work on a bike from start to finish, cleaning and performing safety checks, with opportunities to learn more advanced bike maintenance skills as we find issues. You will also get to know our adaptive bikes, which many people are not familiar with.
You do not need to be a “bike mechanic” for this role, but some experience working on bikes and familiarity with bike parts is a plus.

Learn to Ride
Learn to Ride is a skill-building program for youth and young adults learning to ride a two-wheeled bicycle. Lessons focus on safety, balance, steering, braking, and spatial awareness, with advanced topics such as shifting, group riding, and traffic laws as appropriate. Volunteers work one-on-one with riders who may have intellectual, developmental, cognitive, or physical disabilities. Using established games and activities, volunteers help deliver safe, fun, and engaging lessons with support from Outdoors for All staff.
Each session includes three 50-minute lesson blocks. Volunteers are expected to attend all three blocks per day and may work with the same participant or different participants. SPORT PROTECTION REPORTING FORM
Outdoors for All does not tolerate abuse or neglect of any kind, between any association of staff, volunteers, participants, family members, or caregivers. In Washington State, abuse or neglect is defined as the physical, sexual, or emotional injury of child (or vulnerable adult) by any person under circumstances which cause harm to the individual’s health, welfare, or safety; or the negligent treatment or maltreatment of a child (or vulnerable adult) by a person responsible for or providing care to the child.
If there is suspected abuse or neglect, or a claim of abuse or neglect, taking place within an Outdoors for All program, or with a participant who is involved in an Outdoors for All program, Outdoors for All has a legal and ethical responsibility to report such suspensions or claims to the appropriate authorities and/or support investigations into such claims of abuse or neglect.
During an investigation, Outdoors for All may limit the participation of individuals involved in the claim. Outdoors for All does not have an obligation to share the details of an investigation with those involved in the claim, to protect privacy and prevent retaliation of those involved.
Staff and volunteers complete yearly training on abuse and neglect prevention and reporting practices within Washington State.
