Back on a Bike!
The recent reflections of one Outdoors for All participant:
On Sept. 15th, 2005 I attended an MS Society event sponsored by Outdoors for All called Adaptive Cycling. I was hesitant since I stopped riding my bicycle about 5 years ago due to a lack of balance related to multiple sclerosis. I’ve lived with MS for 20 years.
I’ve never liked the idea that I couldn’t ride again, but accepted the fact that there are some things I no longer can do because of MS. Boy was I wrong! At the Outdoors for All event I couldn’t wait to ride one of the bikes that Outdoors for All had provided. It was the EZ-3 Trike, and I was in heaven! Since it has two wheels in the back, I didn’t have to worry about falling over. I could look around at the scenery to my hearts content, knowing the EZ-3 was creating my balance. I left the event to return home, but had such a great time I turned around and came back to ride more!
Two days later I was in a local bike shop ordering the EZ-3, and a few days after that was riding my new trike everywhere! I love the independence it provides, and I’ve realized that when people are looking at me on the bike trail, it’s because they are checking out my new EZ-3 Trike.
Thank you Outdoors for All Foundation. Thank you for your dedication to show people with disabilities that they can still do what they love.
